I remember my brother collecting loads of Peanuts books when we were kids. We loved them, even though the many baseball-themed stories were a little mysterious to us here in England. Think we just loved the cartoons anyway.
Zillions of American movies later, and I get the humour a lot more. And wasn't Charlie Brown's dad a barber? I think 'Chuck' used to get upset when people moaned about the rise in haircut prices.
Anyway, I just want to say how much I'm enjoying the breadth of your newsletters Joe. Feels similar to watching a good documentary and a feel-good movie rolled into one.
Many congratulations on your Snoopy-related triumph Joe. A peanut!? Wish I'd known that when I was a kid. I think I used the walnut method. Looked like Snoopy after his kennel was shot down.
I can’t draw a lick. Or anything else. But, for some reason, I can sketch a decent Snoopy. I’m the Anti-Quesada! By the way, I had a wonderful time (dare I say “experience?”) meeting you in Orlando in March. You are not just creative and talented, but you are genuinely good guy.
Mark, it was great meeting you too. Anyone who has experienced "The Experience," will forever be a member of "The Experience." We're like a group of session musicians who get together and jam from time to time. Thanks for the kind words.
If you ever get the chance, the Charles Schulz museum in Santa Rosa California is a gosh darn delight! I live about an hour away and visit it often. I can and have spent hours just looking at every little line of art showcased in that beautiful building. ❤️❤️❤️
I didn't draw any of the characters. It was the idea behind the piece. I'm not sure if I have it in my archives, but if I find it I'll post it this week.
I'm surprised a badass artist like you has a hard time with drawing snoopy. Interesting reading about meeting Barry Windsor Smith. Strikes me as a guy who doesn't want to be bothered with humanity, Barry Windsor Smith, that is. I like to see a drawing of ghost rider and wolverine riding motorcycles. This behind the scenes comic book world is cool
Sorry you were hit with Covid multiple times and from conventions, Joe. If I am attending the same convention you are, I promise I will mask up and not ask for Peanuts sketches.
PAIRS looks really interesting. Thanks for the share.
And congratulations on drawing Snoopy. 👏 He looks great.
...a long time ago, I saw a clip of Charles Schulz drawing a Snoopy... Honestly, it was wonderful ... the character was so alive, so light, so natural ...so simple, but at the same time... impossible to imitate! Unexpectedly, the format was really big! ...Damn! :))

Thanks for all your work Joe
The Batman you drew from this newsletter was fun to ink! Tho I must admit I got crazy with the cheese wiz AKA McFarlane’y 😁

DD, I was there last year, it's a fantastic place!
Great to have you back. It was awesome to meet you at FanExpo Canada. Also, thanks for answering my question about your experience on Substack.
Great meeting you too, Andrew. Let's do it again sometime!
Any time you’re in Toronto, I will happily show up.
I thought your tribute to Charles Schultz was a beautiful piece.
Are you referring to the one I did for Wizard after he passed? Thank you. If you recall, I did not draw Snoopy in it.
I am. I have the issue somewhere in my stored magazines. I honestly couldn’t recall if you had drawn Snoopy though.

If you can’t find it, I’m sure I could dig it up and scan it and send it to you.

Hey, Kevin, sometimes the simplest drawings can be the hardest to master.

Thanks, Kim! That Snopy drawing may be my greatest artistic achievement. At least it felt that way at the moment.
I always find Charlie Brown hard to draw but your Charlie looks great (and your Snoopy looks good too)!
Thanks, Bill.
ah ah ah!!! ...yes, that Damn Snoopy is so hard to draw!!! :)
Right?!?

I've seen videos of him drawing before, he's a master. I also own a Peanuts strip that features Snoopy.
Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment.
Wow! You got it! ... Mmmh, your punishment is too light! 🤣
Thanks for the mention and the offer still stands if you come to a Fan Expo in Alberta!!
Deal!
um, sorry but "Zdarsky's Revenge" is actually "a life well lived (except for all the times it wasn't)"
In France, they call a case of Zdarsky's Revenge "La Chip Grippe."
Keep telling yourself that.
I have to 'cause no one else talks to me :(
That tracks.
